Union Bancaire Privee has hired a private banker from rival French bank CIC as its operating chief in Hong Kong. The high-profile banker is the latest hire for the Swiss private bank, which is building in Asia.
Geneva-based UBP said it named Stephane Kiefer its new operating chief in Hong Kong, effective on Thursday.
Kiefer (pictured left) joins from CIC, where he has been the French bank's risk and credit officer, also in Hong Kong, for the last two and a half years. It is a high-profile appointment in Asia for UBP, which is growing in strides thanks to acquiring some of Coutts International's assets and clients nearly two years ago. Kiefer, who is French, will report jointly to Ian Cramb, UBP's overall operating chief, as well as to Michael Blake, who is head of private banking in Asia.
