An index that considered factors such as cost, quality of life and ease of starting a new business has named an asian capital in its top ten. However its not Hong Kong, Singapore or Tokyo.
Vancouver has been ranked the best city in the world for startups, the Canadian city took the top spot because it offers a high quality of life, good access to office space and relative ease of getting a company off the ground,
This according to PeoplePerHour, the freelance sourcing firm behind the list. Other metrics used to rank the cities were cost of living, rent, monthly salary, and the best country for doing business.
European cities Berlin came in second, followed by Manchester in the U.K.
Asian Surprise
Both Hong Kong and Singapore regularly feature in the top spot for ease of doing business and competitiveness but a growing number of startups are looking at another Asian city, Bangkok.
The Thai capital has been quietly attracting financial technology and other startups who see the location as the ideal hub from which to push into the ASEAN region, with its huge population and growing middle class.
Just outside the top 10, which included Bangalore, Kuala Lumpur out scored its near neighbour.
On this occasion Singapore came in 12th, better than Hong Kong which has been struggling with high housing and office costs, and did not appear in the top 25.
