HSBC's private banking arm has poached an asset manager and India fund expert from Standard Life for its mutual fund and exchange-traded fund business.
Sai Tampi (pictured below) is a well-known veteran of the Indian fund market. He moved to London in a business development role with Standard Life last year.
On Monday, Britain's HSBC said its private banking arm has hired Tampi as its head of funds and exchange-traded funds, effective on Monday.
It is a homecoming for Tampi: he began his career nearly 20 years ago at HSBC in business development, but defected for Credit Suisse in 2008. At HSBC, Tampi reports to Henry Lee, who is head of the private bank's managed investment solutions arm.
Fund Team Lead
He was the Swiss bank's head of asset management in India until 2013, when he moved to Standard Life. That fund manager's recent merger with Aberdeen has sparked management changes in Asia, as finews.asia reported earlier on Monday.
He will be based in London and manage the global fund selection team, which includes partnering with selected funds and ETF groups.
«Sai's considerable experience will further strengthen our products leadership team, and ensure that we continue to provide our clients with innovative investment opportunities and solutions in the funds and ETFs arena,» Lee said in a statement.
