The former banker of Goldman Sachs involved in the 1MDB case will be returned to Malaysia.

Roger Ng will return to Malaysia, where he faces related charges to the country’s sovereign wealth fund 1MDB. Ng is facing ten years in prison after being convicted in New York.

Chief US district judge Margo Brodie ordered Ng to surrender to the US Marshals Service by Friday, 6 October 2023, as reported by Reuters. Following this surrender, Ng could be turned over to Malaysian law enforcement, who would transport him to the country.

US Prison Term

When returning to the US, Ng would be required to begin his prison term, according to the prosecutor's letter. The proposed schedule is agreed by Ng’s lawyers.

Earlier in March 2023, Ng was sentenced after jurors found him guilty of helping former Goldman boss Tim Leissner embezzle money from 1MDB, launder the proceeds, and bribe government officials to win business. Ng is a Malaysian national and Goldman's former head of investment banking in Malaysia.
