New York-based Citi is forecasting an increase in Asian international bond issuances in 2024, amid investor expectations of a topping interest rate cycle.

Citi forecasts that Asia ex-Japan international bond issuances will total $160 billion in 2024, according to a report. This marks a 20 percent year-on-year increase compared to around $130 billion in 2023. Nearly $15 billion has already been issued in January.

«[The] market is widely expecting Fed to cut rates this year,» the bank said. «Some issuers are able to obtain lower yields/coupon on their transactions with many investors able to make gains on their portfolio with yields moving lower.»
