He is known for developing Morgan Stanley Australia from the ground up, now the longest serving Chief Executive in financial services in Australia is about to step down.
According to a report in the Australian Financial Review (paywall) Steven Harker will be moving into a Vice Chairman role at the end of the year, after an extensive career running the Australian operations of Morgan Stanley.
Harker (pictured) who joined Morgan Stanley in 1998 is the longest serving CEO in Australian financial services is well regarded in the industry for building Morgan Stanley Australia from the ground up, including its institutional equities and investment banking teams.
He also managed the growth of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management in Australia which following the global acquisition of Smith Barney, is one of the largest networks in the country
Prior to joining Morgan Stanley Harker spent fifteen years with BZW. In 1996, he was transferred to London where he was promoted to Chief Executive of Global Equities and a Member of the BZW Global Management Committee.
