Credit Suisse’s chairman Urs Rohner said the Swiss bank was seeking more cooperation with insurers, citing a Chinese merger as a success story.
«In the retail business in particular, there will be more partnerships with us,» Rohner said in a «SonntagsZeitung» report over the weekend. «There are good examples abroad of how insurance and banking services can be merged, such as Ping An in China.»
According to Rohner, future cooperation could include insurance, credit cards or events, noting the potential for improved access to younger retail clients.
«Working with third parties is interesting, but we always have to be careful to protect the strength of our brand,» he added. «This is particularly important for very wealthy customers.»
Insufficient Liquidity
Rohner also underlined that importance for public and private sector planning to further support companies during the pandemic, adding that the existing state-backed emergency loans will not suffice.
«It would be wrong to believe that the aid we have decided so far has let us already master the economic consequences of the crisis.» he said. «I suggest we start thinking now about how we can give the economy new impetus. The crisis will preoccupy us all of next year.»
Rohner's term ends next year and he was confident that ongoing succession planning would reach a «good solution in a timely fashion».
