The bank has made two senior hires in newly created roles at its Wealth and Personal Banking business in Singapore, to drive its Asia wealth ambition.

HSBC has appointed Ian Yim as head of distribution and Melissa Craig as head of digital and innovation, reporting to Anurag Mathur, head of wealth and personal banking, the bank said in an announcement on Tuesday.

Singapore, where the roles are located, is central to the bank's wealth ambitions, said HSBC. It is investing some $3.5 billion in the next five years as part of its bid to become the leading wealth bank in the region, where it has also planned a wealth hub for the South Asia and Asean market.

Seasoned Banker

Yim, who has held several senior roles during his 18 years at HSBC, was appointed head of wealth and international in 2019, and acting head of distribution since 1 March. His new role will be effective on 26 April.

He will be responsible for all staff-assisted sales and service channels, including Branch Network, International Wealth Hub, Contact Centre, Direct Sales, Wealth Specialists and Bancassurance. The bank said driving synergy across these channels will help it improve sales productivity and customer experience gains.

New Business Opportunities

Craig will help HSBC create new business opportunities and reach new customers through strategic partnerships, in her role as lead of HSBC's expanded Digital & Innovation team, which begins on 1 May.

She is currently HSBC's group head of digital messaging experience and sales, and brings 18 years of experience in digital banking and e-commerce, including at Zuji and Lazada in Singapore.
