Peter Lim the Singapore based tycoon with several high profile sporting investment interests has seen his Valencia team secure the fourth spot in La Liga guaranteeing them a place in the Champions League play-offs.
Should the Spanish team make it through to the group stages it would be a huge money-spinner for the club potentially worth hundreds of millions of Euro’s in television rights and related sponsorship revenues.
This in turn will enable Lim to re invest and strengthen the team making regular Champions League qualification a distinct possibility. The Spanish league is also undergoing a change in how the domestic television rights are distributed.
Traditionally the big two of Real Madrid and Barcelona have carved up the majority of funds in Spanish football but with new business savvy owners such as Lim and China’s Wang Jianlin who owns a share of Atletico de Madrid that model is about to be challenged.
