Hywin Wealth, the leading independent wealth manager of China, holds annual client conferences at scenic resorts, creating a forum for its UHNW clientele to mingle and consult with the thinkers, movers, shakers from finance, tech, arts, and philanthropy.
This year, Hywin has chosen Kunming City (in Yunnan province of China) to host this multi-day event. Kunming has been a sister city of Zurich since the 1980s, both known for their pristine lakes, beautiful nature, and charming summers.
Apart from 1,400 VIP clients and heavyweight speakers, several international banks, fund houses and insurers are also on the attendant list this year. finews.asia has been exclusively invited by Madame Wang Dian, CEO of Hywin Wealth, to report this grand event with three serial articles.
Day 1 | Nov 14: Golfing Day
At 7 am, Han Hongwei, Chairman of Hywin Group (pictured below), teed off the Hywin Golf Invitational with a dozen VIP clients, watched by a galaxy of rich and famous spectators. The 18-hole game lasted 4 hours. Applause and muted cheers were heard on this otherwise tranquil course designed by Scott Miller. The altitude of 1,900 meters was hardly felt by participants who mostly flew in the day before, from across China as well as Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Vaduz, etc.
On the fringe of the course, Chairman Han spoke to finews.asia: «Golf is probably the best sport for the wealth management profession. You have to assess the terrain, judge the wind, factor in what you can control and what you cannot, be bold when you have conviction, and never walk away from a good or bad shot without learning something.»
Completely Off Business
In the afternoon, the guests floated in and out of thematic salons on collectibles and local artisanal arts. A popular financial author held a launch ceremony to sign off his books to the guests, some of whom were influencers with a large fan base on social media.
Collaboration Progress
Madame Wang (pictured above) said to finews.asia: «I am very pleased that the guests enjoyed the activities today. A client told me this was the first time in months that he took his mind completely off business. Tomorrow we will host a full day of presentations and panels – it’s good that the guests have been refreshed for it.»
«I am particularly delighted to catch up with Thomas Meier and Christoph Mauchle of Liechtenstein's VP Bank, to review the collaboration progress to date and develop plans to deepen our partnership in the coming year,» Madame Wang added.
