Toronto-based Sun Life has appointed a 25-year veteran as its chief executive officer for Singapore.

Sun Life Singapore appoints Christopher Albrecht as CEO, according to a statement. effective 1 January 2024. Based in Singapore, he reports to Karim Gilani, president, Greater China, Singapore and international high net worth (HNW), Sun Life Financial.

In the role, Albrecht will be responsible for leading the strategic and operational aspects of Sun Life Singapore's business with a focus on long-term sustainable growth, diversification of its business model and fostering talent.  

Albrecht has over 25 years of experience in insurance, having previously held senior roles at HSBC Insurance (Singapore), Old Mutual International, Swiss Life and 1291 Group (Hong Kong). He is originally from the UK and moved to Singapore in 2005 before relocating to Hong Kong in 2017.

«Strong Momentum»

According to the statement, Singapore has experienced «strong momentum» in 2023 with the launch of its SunBrilliance Indexed Universal Life solution. The Canadian insurer has also reached the milestone of collecting more than S$500m ($376 million) in premiums since April 2021.

«I am confident that with [Albrecht's] leadership and extensive industry knowledge, we will drive greater success for the business, further unlock value for our partners and clients, and cement our status as the leading insurer for HNW insurance in Asia,» Gilani commented.
