Veteran Japanese forward Keisuke Honda retired from international football following his country's last minute defeat to Belgium in the World Cup. Now he wants to fund startups with a Hollywood superstar.

Keisuke Honda is teaming up with global superstar actor and rapper Will Smith to launch an investment fund. The pair who share the same Japanese management company, aim to raise $100 million from Japanese-based investors to invest in U.S. startups, the «Mainichi» reports.

The unusual pairing are expected to leverage their personal connections to source investors and potential deals. Nomura Holdings has already indicated it will take part in what has been called the «Dreamers Fund».

Honda is looking for a new career direction after his time in football. After being released by Italian club A.C. Milan in the summer of 2017, he signed with Mexican side Pachuca, but will not extend his one year contract that expires later this month.
