Hong Kong lender Hang Seng Bank’s vice-chairman and chief executive Louisa Cheang Wai-wan will take a leave of absence to undergo health treatment.
Cheang is «undergoing treatment for a recently diagnosed medical condition», according to an exchange filing, and would continue to perform her duties while the bank’s strategic and development plans remained unchanged.
«We wish Ms. Cheang a speedy recovery and send our best regards to her and her family,» the filing said.
Not COVID
Naturally, onlookers were concerned if Cheang had been a victim of the ongoing pandemic and a source, according to an «SCMP» report, said she was fortunately not infected by the virus. In addition, the source added that Cheang did not need to take a lengthy sick leave.
Cheang first took the helm at Hang Seng in 2017 to succeed the then retiring chief executive Rose Lee Wai-mun. Prior to joining Hang Seng, Cheang was with its parent group HSBC as group general manager and group head of retail banking since 2014. She first joined the British lender in 1999 in its credit card department.
