Nomura has announced the addition of more than two dozen private bankers as part of broader ambitions to triple assets under management in its international wealth management unit.
Nomura’s international wealth management (IWM) unit has hired over 25 private bankers and investment advisors in the past six months, according to a statement.
The Japanese private bank has also benefitted from a deepened product offering as a result of IWM's integration into the wholesale business.
«Aligning with global markets and investment banking has allowed international wealth management to deepen its institutional product suite to meet the sophisticated needs of entrepreneurs and ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) clients,» said deputy head of global markets and Asia ex-Japan head of global markets Rig Karkhanis. «We are now in a strong position to offer them structured products, financing and derivatives solutions.»
Client Coverage Hires
The announcement highlights some of the senior hires made including the addition group head for Greater China relationship management Richard Hu and Greater China relationship manager Andrew Au, which finews.asia previously reported.
The bank has also hired Melani Hoesada as managing director and team lead for Southeast Asia with a focus on the Indonesian market. Hoesada has over 30 years of private banking experience, having previously worked for Deutsche Bank, Citi Private Bank and, most recently, UBS.
Kapil Poply joins as a managing director and team lead with a focus on Southeast Asia and non-resident Indian (NRI) markets. He has over 20 years of experience managing UHNW clients with the likes of UOB Private Bank, ANZ, ING, UBS and, most recently, Standard Chartered.
Jeanna Chan has been named executive director and team lead for Greater China. Chan has over 25 years of private banking, investment banking and asset management experience and previously worked for Bank of Singapore and Credit Suisse.
Sarah Lee joins from Deutsche Bank as an executive director and team lead for Grater China. She started her banking career 30 years ago with Citi and has since worked for First Pacific Corporation, Standard Chartered, Bank of Singapore and Julius Baer.
David Huang has been appointed executive director and relationship manager for Greater China, joining most recently from Bank of Singapore. Previously, he also worked for UBS, BNP Paribas, Bank of China, HSBC, Citi and Sumitomo.
Joining from Standard Chartered, Gaurav Gupta has been named executive director and relationship manager for Southeast Asia and NRI markets. He has more than 16 years of experience managing UHNW clients across Southeast Asia and the Middle East with the likes of UOB, ANZ, HSBC and ING.
Sharon Bahl has been hired as executive director and relationship manager for the NRI market. The 30-year wealth management veteran joins from BNP Paribas where she spent nearly nine years in various roles. Previously, she had also worked for Barclays and Citi.
Gautam Sareen has been named executive director and relationship manager for the Southeast Asia and NRI markets. He has over 18 years of experience, joining most recently from BNP Paribas. Previously, he worked for J.P. Morgan, Bank of Singapore and ABN AMRO after starting his career with HDFC Bank in New Delhi.
Also joining from BNP Paribas is Nishant Chugh has been appointed executive director and relationship manager focusing on Southeast Asia. He has 15 years of wealth management experience and prior to BNP Paribas, he worked for ANZ, Royal Bank of Scotland and Citi.
Investment Advisory Hires
In addition to relationship management, Nomura has also bolstered its investment product and advisory capabilities with several hires.
Gareth Nicholson joins IWM as executive director, chief investment officer and head of discretionary portfolio management. He has 16 years of experience focusing on fixed income and multi-asset portfolios, most recently with Bank of Singapore. Previously, he also spent 12 years with Aberdeen Standard Investments as a senior portfolio manager.
Symon Tilberis has been appointed executive director and head of family office services. Tilberis has 19 years of international wealth and asset management experience, joining from BNP Paribas where he headed the bank’s key client group in the region. Previously, he also worked for UBS.
25-year wealth manager Olaf van Duijnhoven joins as executive director and team lead for investment advisory. He joins from Standard Chartered where he spent 10 years and previously also worked for Deutsche Bank.
Ex-HSBC Private Bank executive Albert Wong has been hired as executive director and investment advisor. Wong has 20 years of banking experience and previously also worked for J.P. Morgan, Citi Private Bank and Merrill Lynch.
