The long-awaited dinner took place on January 23, after a previously planned lunch in San Francisco was postponed.

Justin Sun has met billionaire investor and crypto skeptic Warren Buffet for a charity meal for which he paid $4.57 million in 2019, according to a press release published by the Tron Foundation on Thursday.

«I'll always remember his kindness and support, and will take Mr. Buffett’s advice and guidance to make Tron a better ecosystem, business with all the partners in the blockchain space and beyond», Sun was quoted as saying.

Sun said they discussed cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and Tesla, among other topics, with the 89-year-old Buffett even dispensing some life advice to the 29-year-old cryptocurrency entrepreneur: «If you have to ask if she’s the one, then she’s not the one», Buffett told him.

Prominent Guests

According to the statement, Buffett chose the location – the Happy Hollow Club, a private, not-for-profit country club, located in his home city of Omaha, Nebraska. Guests included Litecoin Foundation founder Charlie Lee, Huobi CFO Chris Lee, head of Binance Charity Foundation Helen Hai, and CEO of eToro Yoni Assia.

Buffett paid for the $515 meal, which included salmon, steaks, and Merlot, according to a picture of the check Sun posted on Twitter, where he detailed their conversation. Sun said Buffett invited him for a reunion in 2030.

Cancellation and Apology

Buffett has auctioned off the meal annually since 2000, with the proceeds going to the Glide Foundation, which caters to San Francisco's homeless population and those battling addiction.

Originally scheduled for July 2019, Sun called it off, saying he was ill with kidney stones. He later apologized on Chinese social media Weibo for over-publicizing the meal, which he said «led to a negative influence on the public and also drew concerns from regulators».

Tech Entrepreneur

Sun launched the blockchain-powered infrastructure platform Tron in 2017 with an initial coin offering that raised about $70 million. In 2018, the firm acquired BitTorrent for $120 million. According to price data provider CoinMarketCap, Tron’s TRX blockchain-based token is the 12th largest cryptocurrency, with a $1.5 billion market capitalization.

Before launching the Tron, Sun was an early investor in Tesla and bitcoin, while obtaining a Master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 2013.
