Zurich headquartered private bank Vontobel has been steadily expanding its Asian offering. In its most recent move the bank is courting wealthy private clients in Australia.
From the beginning of June Vontobel’s advisory services and individual investment solutions have been available to clients who are domiciled in Australia. In order to drive this newest initiative forward the bank has put in place a team of experienced private banking advisors in Zurich dedicated to serving this growth region.
Australian Wealth Veteran
The new team is led by Bernhard Breiter, who joined Vontobel Private Banking in Zurich on 1 June 2016. With a decade and a half of experience working in the Aussie market, Breiter should be able to quickly build traction for Vontobel.
Breiter spent 15 years at UBS covering the Australian market, including 2 years in its Representative Office in Sydney.
Together with two experienced employees with whom he already worked at UBS, it is expected that the new team will drive forward the expansion of Vontobel’s business with private clients from Australia.
Building Asian Capabilities
Breiter will report to Alex Fung, Head of Vontobel Wealth Management Asia Pacific, who is based in Hong Kong.
«In view of the structure of the market and the rapidly expanding population, Australia offers excellent opportunities for global wealth managers in the future. With Bernhard Breiter and his team, we can make these solutions accessible to wealthy private investors in Australia,» said Fung.
finews.asia reported earlier this year on additions Vontobel has made to its Asian based team including the appointments of Joannes Ho and Christine Chen.
