The former head of Deloitte in Asia is joining the board of Singapore's central bank and financial market regulator, the Monetary Authority of Singapore. MAS' chairman was also backed for another term.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore chairman Tharman Shanmugaratnam was appointed for another term, the overseer said in a statement on Friday. The 61-year-old is deputy Prime Minister and coordinating minister for economic and social policies.
MAS also said it appointed long-standing Deloitte Asia head Chaly Mah to its board. Mah, who spent a total of 38 years with Deloitte before retiring nearly two years ago, is currently chairman of NetLink NBN Management. His term runs until the end of May in 2020.
The following four members will also be re-appointed to MAS' 11-person board, and the appointments will be effective from June 1:
- Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Finance
- Quek See Tiat, President of the Council for Estate Agencies
- Peter Ong, Chairman of Enterprise Singapore
- Tan Chorh Chuan, Chief Health Scientist of the Ministry of Health
