As CEO of UBS he was less than successful in steering Switzerland's largest bank through the financial crisis. The former banker has had more luck in his second career in Spain it seems.
Marcel Rohner was in charge of UBS from July 2007 through February 2009 – and under his direction the bank had to seek a government bailout and lurched right into a protracted tax dispute with the U.S., surely the most turbulent time of its history.
Since those infamous years at UBS, Rohner has rediscovered himself as consultant, investor and board member, and most recently added the title of «olive oil king» to his curriculum vitae. This title being endowed recently by Switzerland's «Handelszeitung». Rohner sits on the management board of Armada Investment family office, owned by fellow financier and companion Daniel Aegerter.
Finca in Andalusia
Armada Investment owns the Finca La Torre farm in Andalusia, with some 34,000 olive trees. The farm is located near Malaga in southern Spain, and according to the country’s agriculture ministry, produces the best olive oil in Spain.
The batch comes with a hefty price attached. A half-liter bottle of the cold-pressed oil commands of price of about 27 Swiss francs, according to the report in «Handelszeitung».
