4. Marcel Rohner: Casualty
Marcel Rohner was an unexpected choice to take over in 2007: the then 43-year-old was the deputy to the CEO and had to step in when Wuffli jumped ship. But the job proved too big a challenge for the banker, given the catastrophic situation in which the bank found itself. He has made history as the bearer of bad news.
In 2008, with the sums off rising steadily, Rohner stood on the sidelines watching events unfold until former Credit Suisse CEO Oswald Gruebel took over in 2009.
Rohner has not been idle since and chose a career as a board member: Union Bancaire Privée, Helvetische Bank, Acoro Asset Management, Armada Investment are but a few of his mandates. The Association of Swiss Asset and Wealth Management banks elected Rohner as chairman this year.
