Financial services and fintech regulation specialist Sopnendu Mohanty has been appointed by Indian state Odisha to be its digital and financial technology advisor, according to a government press release published on Thursday.
With the appointment, Mohanty, who is the Monetary Authority of Singapore's (MAS) chief fintech officer, will become a minister of state. He will collect feedback from beneficiaries of state government schemes and programs and submit the reports to respective departments through ministers, the release said.
Odisha-born Mohanty is currently the head of MAS' FinTech & Innovation Group, which is responsible for regulatory policies and development strategies to facilitate the use of technology and innovation.
He previously spent more than 12 years at Citi, where he held a variety of tech and innovation roles, according to his LinkedIn profile.
