The Singapore state investor's new CEO, Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara, was announced in February.
Ho Ching has left her role as a chief executive officer of the republic's S$300 billion sovereign wealth fund, after nearly two decades at the helm. Legal veteran Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara, chief executive of Temasek International (TI), the group's commercial arm, will replace her from today.
Ho joins Temasek Trust's board of directors from today, and she will also succeed S Dhanabalan as chairman of Temasek Trust from 1 April 2022. The trust was established by Temasek in 2007 to provide governance and financial oversight of Temasek's philanthropic endowments.
There is a «huge opportunity to inculcate philanthropy more widely in businesses in Asia, to work together for the common good,» Ho said about her new appointment.
Strong Leadership
Ho – the wife of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong – began her career as an engineer and worked for Singapore Technologies Group, where she became its president and CEO, before joining the state investor in 2002. The 67-year-old was appointed CEO in 2004, and her salary has never been disclosed.
During her tenure, Temasek's net portfolio value more than quadrupled to $381 billion as at end-March this year. She also grew its portfolio to include more companies outside the city-state – Singapore companies comprised about half its portfolio when she joined in 2004; that figure now stands at 24 percent. Chinese companies comprise 27 percent of the portfolio currently.
She has also been credited with driving Temasek to become a champion of sustainability.
