The former chair of HSBC India has joined Rothschild & Co to provide advice on strategic growth ambitions in the world’s second-most populous country.
Naina Lal Kidwai joins Rothschild & Co as a senior advisor and board member of Rothschild & Co India, according to a statement.
In her new role, Kidwai will «assist in advising Rothschild & Co on its strategic ambitions, with a focus on helping drive growth in the region».
«India is an important growth market for Rothschild & Co and [Kidwai’s] wealth of experience will play an important role as we continue to grow our business globally,» said managing partner Robert Leitão.
«Padma Shri»
Awarded the «Padma Shri» – the fourth highest civilian award in India – for her contributions in trade and industry, Kidwai is a renowned financial veteran and, famously, the nation’s first woman to graduate from Harvard Business School in 1982.
Her career includes three decades of experience in the financial sector, previously serving as chairman of HSBC India and executive director on the board of HSBC Asia Pacific, and vice chairman and head of investment banking at JM Morgan Stanley.
«[Kidwai] is one of the most accomplished bankers in India and a truly trusted adviser,» said Sir Richard Stagg, chair of India at Rothschild & Co. «Her knowledge of the Indian economy and the global business landscape will be incredibly valuable to our clients.»
