What began as a joke, with TikToker «Girl on Couch» poking fun at herself, turned into a viral hit. Her short song about searching for a tall banker with a trust fund and blue eyes caught on, and a music label has now bought the rights.
«Girl on Couch,» whose real name is Megan Boni, has around 300,000 followers on TikTok with her comedy content. However, a video posted at the end of April featuring a short song about her dream banker received significant attention. Many responded to her call to turn it into a full song, including renowned DJs like David Guetta and Alesso, according to Bloomberg.
The result of the more than a thousand remixes has been millions of likes on TikTok and streams on Spotify. Universal Music Group has since acquired the audio rights to her track.
Finance Bro Stereotype
In her rap, Boni looks for a «finance bro» standing at 6 feet 5 inches (1.96 meters), with blue eyes and a trust fund.
«I just thought it would be funny to make a video making fun of those single girls who are always complaining about being single, but yet they want an impossible laundry list of things in a boyfriend... that’s myself included,» said the 27-year-old in an interview with Billboard. «I hope the finance bros aren't too mad at me.»
Boni has since quit her job at a clothing company and signed with a talent agency. «I hope to become an actress one day and not a slave to my phone.»
