Yet another top global executive at UBS has been assigned to a leading role in APAC, finews.asia has learned.
Wiwi Gutmannsbauer has been appointed as chief operating officer (COO) of UBS in APAC, according to an internal memo seen by finews.asia, effective 1 January 2025. This is in addition to his current role as COO of the bank’s wealth management unit globally.
Gutmannsbauer is a UBS veteran, having joined the Swiss bank in 1998. He had prior experience in Asia as its regional COO from 2018 to 2021, alongside his role as operating head of wealth management APAC. Previously, he was also COO region EMEA and operating head WM booking center Switzerland & emerging market locations.
In his new capacity, Gutmannsbauer will be based in Singapore and Zurich.

The latest appointment marks yet another top global executive from UBS that will be based in Asia, in addition to Iqbal Khan, APAC president and co-president of global wealth management. This further emphasizes the importance of Asia for UBS’ wealth business.
«Wiwi Gutmannsbauer is ideally placed to support the next stage of our regional growth,» Khan said in the memo. When contacted, a spokesperson for the bank confirmed the contents of the memo.
