The challenges leaders face have grown significantly. The CEO of executive search firm Chaberton Partners shares what it takes to succeed in today’s environment.
The winds of change can shift quickly. Not long ago, many companies viewed hybrid work models as the future of employment. Now, many organizations are backing away from that idea. Remote work? Preferably not – and if allowed, certainly not on Mondays or Fridays.
Swiss Re CEO Andreas Berger recently voiced his dissatisfaction with remote work in a recent interview. Meanwhile, J.P. Morgan has gone a step further, seeking to bring employees entirely back to the office. And these are just high-profile examples of a growing trend.
According to Christian Vasino, CEO of Swiss executive search firm Chaberton Partners, this approach is not the solution. «We can’t turn back the clock. Since the pandemic, employees have become accustomed to remote work. Companies need to adapt,» he says.

He has a similar reaction to complaints from CEOs about the expectations and work ethic of Gen Z. «A CEO who can’t handle Gen Z is out of place,» he says. Particularly in the war for talent and amid skill shortages, understanding the needs of younger generations is critical. Vasino adds, «Employees are no longer easily motivated to switch jobs.»
Vasino points out that a new understanding of work has emerged. The days when a boss could unilaterally dictate the course of action are over. «Today, the focus is on how a company can succeed together with its employees,» he explains.
