Singapore's largest bank DBS has appointed a veteran banker to the newly expanded role of Group Head of Strategy and Planning. The bank has been at the forefront of leveraging digital technology, will this push continue?
Shee Tse Koon joins DBS from Standard Chartered Bank, where he was most recently CEO of its Indonesia franchise. Shee has over 22 years of banking experience gained across a range of front and back office functions, as well as stints in different regions including Asia, the Middle East and UK.
Shee, a Singaporean, spent the early years of his career in trade finance as well as corporate and institutional banking. Prior to his posting in Indonesia, he was Head of Governance (Europe, Middle East, Africa & Americas), based in the United Arab Emirates, as well as Chief Information Officer and Head of Technology and Operations for Standard Chartered in Singapore. Before this, he was the Executive Assistant to Standard Chartered’s Group Executive Director for Africa & the Middle East, based in the UK.
Influential Appointment
At DBS, Shee will report to CEO Piyush Gupta and be a member of the bank's Group Management Committee (GMC). Shee will help to develop and implement the ongoing strategy for the bank. This includes providing thought leadership and counsel to the senior leadership team on major strategic issues. He will also be instrumental in operationalising the bank's organic and inorganic initiatives.
«Tse Koon has a broad-based international banking background, and has demonstrated through his career a tremendous ability to take on diverse roles and deliver results in both developed and emerging markets. DBS has been able to deliver consistently strong results because of strategic clarity and disciplined execution of strategy and Tse Koon’s appointment will strengthen our strategic and planning capabilities as the bank continues to entrench its leadership in Asia and shape the future of banking,» said Piyush Gupta DBS CEO.
