Swiss banking giant UBS has named the former Hong Kong based Chief Technology Officer for APAC as the new head of UBS blockchain.
Peter Stephens, who has been based in Hong Kong since 2008, has been with UBS since 2003, working in a variety of technology roles in EMEA and Asia Pacific. His earlier career at UBS had a focus on Banking Operations technology.
In the new role Stephens will relocate to London and report to UBS Head of Innovation Veronica Lange. According to an internal memo Stephens will take up the new position on November 1.
Sudden Departure of First Head
In Asia Stephens had contributed to UBS' innovation initiatives through engaging with the local finech start-up community and hosting internal Hackathons and fintech events at the Swiss bank.
Before joining UBS Stephens worked as a consultant for the Financial Services consulting practices at IBM and PwC, both based out of London.
The move comes following the sudden departure of UBS' first head of blockchain Alex Batlin. It is thought that Batlin will be moving to BNY Mellon where he will continue his work on blockchain projects.
