National Australia Bank Group Chief Executive Officer Andrew Thorburn has made three new appointments to the Group Executive Leadership team.

The three new additions areMike Baird, as Chief Customer Officer, Corporate and Institutional Banking, Sharon Cook, to the new role of Chief Legal and Commercial Counsel and Patrick Wright, as Chief Technology and Operations Officer

Corporate and Institutional

Mike Baird started his career with NAB as a graduate in 1989, during the next 17 years he held senior roles in corporate and institutional banking in Australia, London and New Zealand.

In 2007 he entered New South Wales (NSW) state politics, serving in a number of shadow ministries before becoming Treasurer from 2011-2014. He became Premier in 2014, before announcing his retirement from political life in January 2017.

In his new role he will be based in Sydney.

Chief Legal Role

Sharon Cook, Chief Legal & Commercial Counsel has more than 25 years' experience as a lawyer practising mainly in the field of commercial litigation, including banking and finance litigation.

Prior to joining NAB In 2015 she worked with King & Wood Mallesons (KWM), having been elected Managing Partner, Clients. There she was on the leadership team of KWM in Australia, responsible for the execution of KWM's client and sector strategy. She will be based in Sydney

Technology and Operations

Prior to taking up the new NAB role Patrick Wright was with Barclays. In 2012 he was Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Barclaycard U.S., and in early 2015 became the Global COO of Barclaycard.

In 2016 his role was further expanded to include the responsibility of COO for Barclays in the Americas, including the corporate and investment banking business in North America. He will be relocating to Melbourne.
