A veteran equities banker in Hong Kong is returning to UBS after eight years at J.P. Morgan, finews.asia has learned. The Swiss bank hopes to win business across Asia with the hire.

Andrea Casati will rejoin UBS in May as head of equity capital markets syndicate in Asia-Pacific, according to an internal memorandum seen by finews.asia.

The investment banker joins from J.P. Morgan, where he has held a near-identical role for the past eight years.

«Andrea speaks fluent Japanese and will look to leverage his syndicate and origination capabilities to win business and enhance connectivity and integration across the APAC region,» Sam Kendall, investment banking head in Asia, and capital markets head for the region Michel Lee wrote in the joint memorandum.

«In addition, Andrea will work closely with his equity capital markets colleagues in EMEA and the Americas as well as our market leading equities franchise to drive strategic priorities across the UBS platform.»

The move was first reported by online finance portal «GlobalCapital» in Asia.
