He is a decorated rugby player more used to attacking and finding holes in opponents' defence, now he's been hired for a prominent role advising financial firms in Asia.

Consulting and accounting firm EY has hired former rugby player Josh Lewsey in Hong Kong, Reuters publication «IFR» reported on Wednesday.

Lewsey was a professional rugby player prior to his banking career, with 55 caps for England and three for the British and Irish Lions. He stepped down from the sport in 2009, and his most recent role was as head of rugby at the Welsh Rugby Union.

The 40-year-old has since worked for Citigroup as a trader and for PwC as a management consultant.

Front Office Help

EY said it hired Lewsey to build teams focused on providing change management assistance in the financial services front office for clients based in Hong Kong, Greater China, Singapore and Oceania.

Finance firms like Goldman Sachs have long recruited among former athletes, in the hope that the team-based view, discipline and hard work needed to play professional sports would carry over into banking life.
