Credit Suisse wants applicants from outside of banking apply to its solutions technology team, just as long as they are passionate about technology.

Switzerland's second largest bank is intent on doubling the size of its «solutions technology» unit which is spread between Hong Kong and Singapore this year.

The unit, which supports Credit Suisse’s (CS) derivatives business in Asia, has grown from 30 to 50 people in Hong Kong over the past two years, says Paul Gresham, CIO of APAC solutions IT, in an interview with industry publication «efinancialcareers».

Heavy Hiring Program

CS intends to increase headcount for this business area by as many as 100 by the end of 2017. China's growing financial technology hub of Shenzhen will join Singapore and Hong Kong as an additional location.

The team, headed by Gresham, designs specifically tailored tools that sit on the desktops of front-office staff and help them automate their work, or which help connect relationship managers in private banking with salespeople in the markets business.

Passionate About Technology

«The business has an almost infinite hunger for good engineers,» says Gresham.

He also describes the recruitment push as one that is «Tech First», meaning the bank is open to candidates not currently working in finance so long as they are passionate about technology.

He admits though that banking has traditionally been a less appealing career option for some young developers.
