PwC accepted its first bitcoin payment for advisory services provided by the Hong Kong office. Will other institutions now follow.
PwC becomes the second of the big four accounting firm to accept bitcoin as payment for its services. The Swiss unit of Ernst & Young (EY) was the first firm of its kind to accept bitcoin for both auditing and advisory services in 2016.
The PwC Hong Kong business is working with several startups who are involved in the cryptocurrency industry, prompting the firm to accept the world’s most widely-known cryptocurrency, according to report in the Wall Street Journal (behind paywall).
Goldman's Says Not Yet
«This decision is also an indication that bitcoin and other established cryptocurrencies have now developed into more broadly accepted forms of settlement,» said Raymund Chao, chairman of PwC Asia-Pacific in a statement.
In an interview in the U.S. Lloyd Blankfein, Goldman Sachs CEO said it was too early for his bank to need a bitcoin strategy and that he doesn’t consider the digital currency to be a store of value.
