National Australia Bank will ax thousands of jobs as it begins to remove layers of middle management.
National Australia Bank (NAB) has started cutting jobs in a move that will see up to 6,000 positions be removed over the coming three years. At the same time, the bank is hiring 2,000 staff with technology skills as it moves to become a digital bank, NAB announced on Monday.
«The proposed new structure will reduce the layers and complexity in the bank so that we can be simpler, make decisions faster and be even closer to our customers,» said Lorraine Murphy, NAB's chief people officer.
CEO Andrew Thorburn tried to soften the news of the job reductions in November last year announcing the roll-out of a newly established career transition program, called «The Bridge», to help employees who will be leaving the bank.
