The team behind the now-defunct «The Motley Fool,» one of Singapore's more popular finance blogs, has started an investment education website.
David Kuo, former chief executive officer of investment advisory platform «The Motley Fool,» along with the site's general manger Joanna Sng and senior analyst Chin Hui Leong have launched personal finance blog «The Smart Investor,» «The Business Times» reported on Wednesday (behind paywall).
Sng told the newspaper that they had been receiving requests for stock investment content since «The Motley Fool» was shut down, which led them to launch the new portal.
«We came together with a shared belief that everybody can learn how to invest, smartly. We aim to educate people on how to invest smartly by providing investing education, stock commentary and market coverage for Singapore and around the world,» its website says.
New Approach
In October 2019, Motley Fool announced the closure of its Singapore business due to regulatory hurdles that classed the website as a financial adviser.
To avoid this, «The Smart Investor» will not make any buy or sell recommendations, and will provide free content related to personal finance, economic issues and markets, the «Business Times» said.
It will also offer exclusive content through a subscription service, and will launch up to five types of investment education services by the end of 2020, the report said.
