Archegos Capital Management founder Bill Hwang has called for his fraud indictment to be dropped due to alleged misconduct by US prosecutors.
Misconduct by prosecutors justifies the dismissal of Bill Hwang’s US fraud indictment, according to a Manhattan federal court filing by the Archegos founder last Friday. This includes alleged concealment by Department of Justice prosecutors over the fact that they had marked Hwang as their prime target prior to his arrest.
«The government's conduct cannot be accurately described as anything other than deceitful,» according to a «Reuters» report citing Hwang's lawyers, adding that that the discussions revealed Hwang’s defense strategy.
Six-Hour Interviews
Two days before Hwang’s April 27 arrest, Hwang allegedly sat through two six-hour interviews without disclosure by prosecutors that he was viewed as a target and not just a «subject» of investigations.
Hwang has pleaded not guilty to fraud and racketeering conspiracy charges over the Archegos collapse in March 2021. A trial of Hwang, alongside ex-Archegos chief financial officer Patrick Halligan, is scheduled for October 2023.
