Private equity deal activity in Asia Pacific reached the lowest level in five years, according to S&P data, after peaking in late 2021.
In 2022, private equity and venture capital investments in the APAC ex-Japan region reached 208 transactions valued at $35.4 billion, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.
In the fourth quarter alone, there were 42 deals with a total value of $5.4 billion, down from 79 deals with a total value of $20.1 billion in the same period in 2021.
The 2022 figures mark an annual decline and the lowest level in five years. According to S&P, private equity activity peaked in 2021 with 347 deals valued at $74.1 billion. A two-year high was reached in the third quarter of 2021 before both deal value and volume began to slow thereafter.
