The UBS headquarters on Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich is currently undergoing a major refurbishment. After the planned reopening in 2019, the property will also host a champagne bar, catering to bankers and tourists alike.

Credit Suisse and Zuercher Kantonalbank have already opened their headquarters along Zurich's tony Bahnhofstrasse to the hospitality industry. UBS now has taken the cue: its main offices on Bahnhofstrasse 45 will become home to a champagne bar after the complete overhaul, according to a report by «Neue Zuercher Zeitung» (in German).

The bar will be situated next to the historic main hall of the building, facing the shopping mile. The team in charge of the new facility is well-known among Zurich's in-crowd.

Experienced Crew

La Stanza, a cafe in the heart of Zurich's finance district, is one of many upscale joints favored by the banking community. The team also runs the Bar Hotel Rivington & Sons in the Zurich's landmark Prime Tower skyscraper, as well as the Cafe Lang on bohemian Limmatplatz.

So instead of counting bags of coins, staff in future will be pouring champagne at Bahnhofstrasse 45. The bar operators are using the same concept successfully applied for half a decade at the Champagneria in Barcelona. The not-so-well-heeled will also be able to purchase a glas of prosecco or cava instead of champagne, the bar operators promise.

Cool and Elegant

While the Catalan Champagneria was designed to reflect a rustic chic, its pendant in Zurich – not surprisingly perhaps – will be kept in a cool and elegant chic.

The counter will be the longest in town, if not the whole of Switzerland, the bars' backers have promised.
