Pakistan Taps Binance Founder for Crypto Guidance

Binance founder Zhao Changpeng will support Pakistan’s ambitions to develop a cryptocurrency trading market.

Binance founder Zhao Changpeng has been appointed a strategic advisor to the Pakistan Crypto Council, according to a press release by the South Asian nation’s Ministry of Finance. In the role, Zhao – also known as «CZ» – will provide guidance on regulation, infrastructure, education and adoption while working closely with the local government and private sector to create a «compliant, inclusive, and globally competitive crypto ecosystem».

«CZ’s appointment signals a bold new era, where Pakistan joins the ranks of Singapore, Dubai, and Switzerland as a progressive, Web3-ready nation,» the statement said.

High Level Visit

The statement added that Zhao's appointment was announced during a meeting with PCC which included in its attendance key officials across its finance ministry, regulator, central bank and more. Zhao also held separate meetings with the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan.

«This is a landmark moment for Pakistan,» said Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, Finance Minister of Pakistan and PCC chairman. «We are sending a clear message to the world: Pakistan is open for innovation. With CZ onboard, we are accelerating our vision to make Pakistan a regional powerhouse for Web3, digital finance, and blockchain-driven growth.»

According to a report by Chainalysis, Pakistan was ranked ninth in its 2024 Global Crypto Adoption Index, with high sub-rankings in its centralized service value and retail centralized service value.
