Amundi furthers its ambitions in Greater China with the appointment of a chairman for the region.

Xiaofeng Zhong was named chairman of Amundi Greater China, according to a statement.

Zhong joined Amundi Hong Kong in November 2011 as its deputy CEO of sales and marketing before being promoted to North Asia CEO. Previously, he worked for Credit Agricole Group after joining in 1996 in various senior investment banking roles in France and Greater China.

China Business Head

The French asset manager also hired Clare Zhao in October this year as its new head of China business.

Prior to joining Amundi, Zhao was with Vanguard since 2012 and was last its mainland China and Hong Kong head of distribution. She also has experience as the general manager of Vanguard’s wholly foreign-owned enterprise in Beijing. Previously, she had worked with the likes of Value Partners, BNP Paribas and Societe Generale.

Amundi is amongst the global fund houses seeking to capitalize on China’s market opening. In December last year, it decided to partner with Bank of China to launch an onshore asset management joint venture.
