The resurgence of the pandemic in the form of a new, rapidly-spreading variant is putting the brakes on plans for the annual alpine conference to return early next year.
The organizers of the World Economic Forum, or WEF, are pushing back the annual meeting of key policymakers, business figures, politicians, and celebrities that was due to take place from January 17 to 21 to early in the summer, they said in a statement.
«Despite the meeting’s stringent health protocols, the transmissibility of omicron and its impact on travel and mobility have made deferral necessary,» said the Geneva-based think-tank that is responsible for organizing the WEF.
The conference has not been held in its traditional format for nearly two years.
In January, the WEF wants participants to join a series of online sessions that bring global leaders together «to focus on shaping solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges,» it said.
