UBS will bolster its alternatives capabilities with the hire of a seasoned private equity expert, finews.asia has learned.
Michelle Shi joins UBS Global Wealth Management as head CIO global investment management (IM) alternative solutions APAC, according to an internal memo seen by finews.asia.
Based in Hong Kong, Shi reports functionally to Zurich-based co-head CIO global IM Alternative investment solutions Johannes Roth and locally to co-head CIO global IM APAC Monica Chatterjee as well as head global asset allocation & co-head global IM APAC Adrian Zuercher.
In her new role, Shi will be responsible for the bank's APAC alternatives team and enhancing its global offering with APAC-originated investment solutions.
Shi has more than two decades of experience, most recently from State Street where she was its head of Asia private equity for nearly six years. Previously, she also worked at GE Asset Management and ADM Capital.

According to the memo, UBS is looking to expand its investment and business support capabilities in the region, including a team of investment specialists and product managers led by Shi for both private markets and hedge funds.
«As we fully deliver on our client promise, we need to stay relevant and provide timely solutions to our clients,» the bank said in the note.
A spokesperson for the bank confirmed the contents of the memo.
