A former Neue Zuercher Zeitung journalist is taking over as editor-in-chief of finews.ch and finews.com, bringing a wide range of journalistic and entrepreneurial experience to Switzerland's leading financial platform.
Fredy Greuter will become editor-in-chief and a member of the executive board of finews.ch and its English-language partner site finews.com starting June 2022. He is replacing Samuel Gerber, who filled the role on an interim basis, who, at his request, is resuming the role of deputy editor-in-chief.
Greuter's journalism career spans nearly three decades, starting in 1994 covering business at Neue Zuercher Zeitung (NZZ) upon graduating from the University of Zurich with an economics degree. After earning his Ph.D., he worked for NZZ as an economics editor and France correspondent.
Editorial Director of NZZ Online
He rose through the ranks and in 2002 was named head of the editorial department for stock reporting, a role he served until September 2006 when he took over as the editorial director of NZZ Online. With his team, Greuter developed several cross-media formats including NZZcampus, NZZexecutive, NZZvotum, NZZfinance, and Web TV.
In 2008, he became a member of the NZZ's chief editorial team and starting in 2010, took on co-responsibility for business development.
Best Qualities for Ensuring the Continued Expansion
Greuter moved to the Media Institute of the Swiss Media Association in Zurich in 2012, where he became a member of the executive board and was responsible for training and development. Another career turn took him to the Swiss Employers' Association. As a member of the executive board in charge of communications, he worked on projects in IT/digitization, public affairs, and events.
«I am exceptionally pleased to welcome such a high-caliber journalist as Fredy Greuter aboard finews.ch. With his many years of experience in journalism and business, he brings with him the best qualities for ensuring the continued expansion of our platform and launching planned projects,» finews.ch founder and CEO Claude Baumann said.
Almost One Million Unique Users
«Fredy Greuter joins finews.ch at an opportune moment, especially as our readership figures are reaching new heights. In March 2022, the websites finews.ch and finews.com registered nearly one million unique users and 2.8 million page impressions per month», Baumann said, referring to Google Analytics statistics on returning visitors and page views.
For his part, Greuter is impressed with the development and potential of finews.ch, saying «The thorough, independent and opinion-forming journalism of the finews.ch editorial team creates the daily trust that remains the best guarantee for a prosperous industry platform, even in the Internet age.»
Zurich, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Ticino
Launched in the fall of 2008, finews.ch has grown into the leading Swiss financial portal for financial industry professionals. This was followed in 2015 when the English-language site finews.com was introduced, and then again in 2016 when finews.asia began operations from Singapore. A Hong Kong office was also added.
The expansion continued in 2021 with the launch of finewsticino.ch, offering local financial news in Italian, in a market gaining relevance as Lugano seeks to upstate Zug's crypto valley. The company, domiciled in Zurich and Singapore, has been profitable for several years and currently employs 17 people.
