Franklin Templeton appoints a new country head as part of a series of management changes.

Nor Hanifah Hashim has been appointed the head of the Malaysia business at Franklin Templeton, replacing Avinash Satwalekar, who has moved to India to become president of the country’s business, the investment manager said in a press release Tuesday.

In the new role, Hanifah will remain the lead manager for the firm’s Sukuk fund and mandates. She will also develop investment policies in Malaysia’s market, and work with the Middle East fixed income team on global Sukuk mandates in support of Franklin Templeton’s global fixed income business. She will have a double reporting line to Tariq Ahmad, head of Asia distribution, and David Zahn, head of sustainable fixed income and head of European fixed income, according to the release.

Keeping Previous Role

Hanifah will remain CEO of Franklin Templeton GSC Asset Management, the company’s Shariah-compliant entity in Malaysia, a responsibility she has held since 2017. She originally joined Franklin Templeton in 2011 as the head of Malaysia fixed income and Sukuk. In that role, she led the launch of the 2015 Franklin Malaysia Sukuk Fund.

Other Appointments

Franklin Templeton has also recently made a number of other Malaysian appointments. Jackie Goh is the new head of institutional sales and David Jong will be the head of retail sales.
