National Australia Bank has set up operations in both Vietnam and India to counter a shortage of tech workers, according to an «Australian Financial Review (AFR)» report.

Ross McEwan, CEO of NAB, one of Australia’s largest banks, told «AFR» that «no matter how hard I try to find people in Australia, we’re not getting the numbers that we need.» NAB has been looking for workers in the digital, technical and IT segments, the report said. McEwan told «AFR» the bank has around 700 vacancies in its data, digital and technology segments.

NAB has acquired a Vietnam operation, buying out partner Positive Thinking for the Ho Chi Minh City technology center, and it is setting up Indian operations, the report said. The Vietnam center is hiring software developers, digital designers, data scientists and other roles for back-office operations, the report said, adding the India hub will support businesses such as digital home loans and the recently acquired Citi consumer business.

The bank has also set up a post-Brexit operation in Paris, which opened last week, the report said.
