Prudential’s Asia-focused asset management arm, Eastspring Investments, has strengthened its fixed income capabilities with three new hires in Singapore.
Clement Chong joined Eastspring Investments in December 2022 as credit manager, according to a statement, reporting to head of fixed income Danny Tan. In his role, Chong is tasked with overseeing the credit research team and co-managing the Eastspring Asia Sustainable Bond Fund, alongside portfolio manager Rong Ren Goh.
Chong has 27 years of industry experience, including 22 years of credit analysis across the region. He was most recently working at NN Investment Partners overseeing the fixed income research process and managing Asian high yield strategies. Previously, he also worked at AIA in Hong Kong and Moody’s Investor Service in Sydney.
Asian USD Credit
In addition, Eastspring has also hired Benedict Phua in November 2022 as director of fixed income, focusing on Asian USD credit solution-based strategies and reporting to lead portfolio manager Wai Mei Leong.
Phua has 16 years of industry experience, including 14 years managing multi-currency fixed income credit and rate portfolios in Singapore and Hong Kong. Previously, he worked at Standard Chartered and DBS.
Client Portfolio Manager
And most recently, Jamie Tay joined Eastspring in January as director and client portfolio manager of the Asian fixed income team. Tay is tasked with bridging the views of the investment team and Eastspring’s clients.
Tay has 19 years of investment experience, including 10 years in client portfolio management roles covering fixed income strategies. She was most recently working at UBS Asset Management in Singapore as a director covering Asia and China fixed income strategies.
As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Prudential, Eastspring has been operating since 1994 and as of 30 June 2022, it had over $222 billion in assets under management.
