Paris-headquartered AXA has reshuffled its leadership team with changes that will also impact the Asia business.
AXA appoints Hassan El-Shabrawishi as CEO of international markets, according to a statement, overseeing the French insurer's operations in Latin America, Africa, Middle East, Turkey, India and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines).
He will join the management committee and report to AXA CEO Thomas Buberl.
El-Shabrawishi was most recently CEO of AXA Africa after first joining the firm in 2010 as business transformation leader for the Mediterranean and Latin America region. Previously, he held several other positions in the insurance sector and at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group.
Japan, Greater China
In addition, AXA Japan and AXA Greater China (Hong Kong and China) will now report directly to George Stansfield, group deputy CEO and general secretary.
Gordon Watson, former CEO of Asia, has been named non-executive chairman for Asia.
Françoise Gilles, chief strategic development officer for AXA Asia, has been appointed chief risk officer for the group and also joins the management committee, reporting to Frédéric de Courtois. group deputy CEO, finance, operations, strategy, risk, underwriting.
Leadership Reshuffle
The latest moves are part of a global leadership reshuffle that also includes the appointment of Patrick Cohen as CEO European markets and health as well as Guillaume Borie as CEO of AXA France.
