The chief executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority has been appointed to a key role at the Bank of International Settlements.
Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) CEO Eddie Yue has been appointed as chair of the major emerging market economies’ governors meeting at the Bank of International Settlements (BIS), according to a statement.
The meeting is a venue for the exchange of views on macroeconomic and financial developments, risks and other relevant matters in such economies. Yue commenced a three-year term for the role on September 1 and succeeds Luiz Awazu Pereira da Silva, former governor of the Central Bank of Brazil and BIS deputy general manager.
BIS also extends the term of Bank Indonesia governor Perry Warjiyo as the Asian consultative council chair by one year and appoints European Central Bank executive board member Fabio Panetta as chair of the committee on payments and market infrastructures.
