The former China division head of the now-defunct Credit Suisse will look after the same market at UBS, finews.asia has learned.

UBS has appointed Janice Hu as China location head, according to an internal memo seen by finews.asia, effective September 16. In the role, she reports to APAC president Iqbal Khan

Hu has more than 20 years of industry experience and is currently vice chair of UBS Securities as well as chair of global banking China. Previously, she was the head of Credit Suisse’s China division.

Role Change

Hu succeeds Eugene Qian who has decided to step down from the role after nine years at UBS in China and will explore other opportunities within the firm.

Qian, who also holds the role of UBS Securities chairman, will continue working on several strategic initiatives related to China following the Credit Suisse acquisition.

When contacted, a spokesperson for the bank confirmed the contents of the memo.
