The Deputy CEO steps down as four new senior appointments are made.

The Hong Kong Stock Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) announced several senior management appointments on Friday that seem to presage a generational change following Bonnie Chan becoming the new CEO in May.

HKEX deputy chief executive officer Wilfried Yu, who is also co-chief operating officer and co-head of markets, is to retire at the end of this year. As part of that, he is also relinquishing his roles as chief executive of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Futures Exchange.

Further Appointments

In his place, Vanessa Lau will become the sole HKEX chief operating officer in addition to her role as group chief financial officer. She will also replace Yu at the latter two entities where Yu was chief executive.

Beyond that, the exchange announced that Xu Liang will join the HKEX as head of operations, reporting to Vanessa Lau while Glenda So, the current markets co-head, will become the head of platform and market structure development, reporting to group chief information officer Richard Leung.
