Manulife Appoints Asia CEO

Canadian insurer Manulife has officially named a new CEO for Asia, succeeding Phil Witherington who will move on to become the global chief.

Manulife has appointed Steve Finch as Asia president and CEO, according to a statement, effective May 9. In the role, he will succeed Phil Witherington who will become president and CEO of the insurer globally.

Finch spent 32 years working at Manulife, currently as its chief actuary and member of its executive leadership team since 2016. Previously, he also held other senior roles such as chief financial officer of Manulife’s US business, John Hancock, and general manager of the US life insurance business.

«We have bold ambitions for Asia, and [Finch’s] deep appreciation of our business at a commercial and functional level, strong knowledge of our products and distribution channels across Asia, and passion for leading teams will help accelerate our growth agenda for this critical part of our business,» said Roy Gori, current president and CEO of Manulife.

The successor for chief actuary will be announced in due course with whom Finch will work to ensure a seamless transition.
